Oracle Cerner Deal – The RPA Perspective

On December 20, 2021, Oracle announced the purchase of medical software vendor Cerner for $28.3 billion which could potentially address a major challenge in healthcare – the creation of a 360-degree view of the patient. Industry analysts expect that the Oracle-Cerner deal would create a cloud-based platform that has the potential to integrate medical records across different systems and enable patients to get easy access to their data.

The industry has been trying to solve this problem for over a decade, but there is still no consensus on an interoperability framework. Big Tech entered the space a few years ago, but their initiatives have not provided any significant acceleration in the field.

We believe that the 360-degree view should not be limited to only clinically driven data but should include all data throughout the entire patient journey. As Jason Warrelmann pointed out in a WSJ article, the 360-degree view of the patient should include the contact center, case management, care management, mobile applications, and all other data points. This all- inclusive view of the patient can help healthcare providers better understand how to improve and connect the overall patient experience with specific business outcomes.

While the software industry is trying to address those challenges, our healthcare customers are looking for immediate solutions to meet patients’ expectations for hyper-personalized healthcare like the treatment they receive from major brands that they interact with daily.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) platforms, like UiPath, transcend traditional process automation and process optimization by natively integrating with a wide range of applications and leveraging Low-Code and No-Code tools to accelerate implementation. UiPath leads the industry in user interface (UI) automation and provides a robust and reliable way to communicate and integrate with applications that do not have native API interfaces such as main frames.

UiPath Integration Services enables faster integration at scale by seamlessly combining world-class UI and API integration, allowing both capabilities to be centrally accessed within the same integration design environment. The Integration Service comes with a large and growing catalog of popular, pre-built connectors such as Salesforce, Slack, Microsoft Office 365, SAP®, ServiceNow, and Google G Suite.

As a part of the basic platform, UiPath Apps offers a Low-Code development platform that enables customers to build and share enterprise-grade custom applications to deliver engaging user experiences. Using UiPath Apps, we can quickly build custom business applications that connect to data in any underlying cloud or on-premises system using the power of automation.

Lack of software development talent in healthcare is a major obstacle for accelerated digital transformation within the industry. Low-Code and No-Code development platforms like UiPath Studio were specifically designed to address this issue. UiPath Studio encapsulates both simple and complex solutions for application integration and automation of third-party applications. The ability to drag and drop pre-built activities enables democratization of development functions and allows business, non-technical, users to build scalable, secure, and reliable applications for simple deployment.

So, what is the best way to start? We recommend identifying a simple integration use case that will pull data from two or three of the most utilized applications. Leveraging a trial version of the UiPath platform for 60-days gives us the ability to pilot the solution and measure the impact with minimal investment.
